A Few More Pics from Penland
Seasonal view from Penland.
Cristina Cordova is amazing. I didn’t meet her but I slipped into the studio since the door was left cracked.
View from pedestrian bridge in Spruce Pine
John Geci and Courtney Martin have a gorgeous garden and view of Celo and Mt. Mitchell from their house.
John & Courtney’s forest platform helped keep us very dry. You could hear church bells on the hour too, which sounded incredible mixed with forest noises. It was unseasonably warm we showed up last Friday and I was a little disappointed in the lack of autumn color. By Saturday, it had cooled off and rained and the yellows were golden. By Sunday the red leaves were popping. It was nice to be sleeping in the woods to welcome autumn.
John Geci sculptures. I love this series and his signature double walled bowls. I’m gonna try some ceramic double walled bowls soon.
I bought a John Geci flask!
I also bought a Lindsay Rogers plate!

Seth let me know he ran into you in Raleigh. I am so impressed with all you have accomplished. Penland is dear to me. In 2005, Paul and I went together for vacation. He studied blacksmithing and I encaustic painting. I just returned for Santa Fe, NM where I was in an advanced encaustic workshop with 12 artists from around the world. Check my website for new work, I will warn you it is very abstract. Proud of you!!!
Your work has really changed… I like it! Sounds like NM was a blast. Congratulations on the grant! I’ve been really digging some encaustic work lately by Celia Gray. She has a show up at Rebus Works now, where you can also find my work if you ever are passing through Raleigh.
Also, I still have the first thrown pot I ever made (with your assistance), or at least my mom has it at home. Thank you so much for helping me take those initial steps.
